Probably a Fight of the Year candidate Junior Dos Santos defeated Stipe Miocic via unanimous decision. What a brutal fight and both men definitely left it in the cage. Miocic had won 2:3 rounds in the first 3 rounds. junior Dos Santos came back in Rounds 4 and 5 to take the fight. Fight of the Year candidate for sure.
Rafael Dos Anjos defeated Nate Diaz. Nate Diaz did everything wrong to go against the machine knowing as the UFC. He walked out of mandatory interview, he missed weight, had negative comments towards CM Punk signing. Dos Anjos came out like a professional, cut weight and it showed because he dominated versus Nate Diaz and it began with those vicious kicks in Round 2. Now he can wait to see if Cowboy Cerrone can win his fight next month.
In my opinion, if Cowboy wins, they have to fight again to earn a shot at Showtime Anthony Pettis’s Lightweight Title.
Alistair Overeem defeated Stefan Struve via KO (Ref Stoppage). Struve tried to sucker Overeem into fighting on the ground and failed miserably. The man that kicked Brock Lesnar’s behind in December of 2011 is back.
If he can stay away from the juice, Overeem can be taken very seriously for a title shot in the near future. He would need a significant fight win streak to be in the conversation for a shot at Werdum or Velasquez.
Matt Mitrione defeated Gabriel Gonzaga. Meathead as he was called looked good in the Octagon tonight. His training with the Blackzillians has definitely paid off. After a long layoff what a return for Meathead. Similar to Overeem, he needs to put together a significant winning streak to be in a conversation for a title shot.
Meathead might have to go through Overeem to do so. For now Meathead, enjoy tonight’s win.
